Fabric has been part of my life for as long as I can
remember from the layers of tablecloths on my Grandmothers front room table to
my Mothers fabric scrap cupboard in the kitchen next to the old boiler. I remember the colours of my clothes from
being very small, the fabric of our deck chairs and the clothes my dolls wore. Today I work and teach at Hope and Elvis in Nottinghamshire – my dream job!
My home is filled with quilts, wool blankets, eiderdowns and scraps of
fabric. They are there because I love each one of them. I gain comfort from them and they
make me feel happy. I hold fabric with
precious care and I have been caught on more than one occasion stroking
it! I long to know its history and wish
it could speak to me and tell me its life story.
